Description

This is a friend I made at Badlands National Park. He came right up to me, seemingly having no fear. I think he wanted food, and I wouldn't be surprised if people fed them. However, sadly for him, I did not have anything to give him.

He kept looking at me expectantly until suddenly, the whole group (colony?) of them started chattering wildly. Prairie Dogs were running and diving into holes. This little guy just hit the dirt (even more so than he was) and laid flat against the ground.

I had no idea what was happening until I looked up and saw a hawk leisurely floating above. The Prairie Dogs did NOT like this one bit. However, the hawk continued on to the south and the chattering seemed less frantic, and things went back to normal.

He still didn't get any food from me.
