Artist's Description
Welcome to the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel. Located in the Prater amusement park, which is close to the Danube River in Vienna. It was built in 1897. It was also the worlds tallest starting in 1920 (when another ferris wheel was demolished, and retained that status for 65 years.
Interestingly, a permit was issued in 1916 for it's demolition, but there was a lack of funds so they couldn't do it.
In the summer months, you can ride the Wiener Riesenrad until almost midnight. It lights up the park.
