The original "Galleria"
A view from inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping gallery looking south across the Piazza del Duomo toward the Museo del Novecento Milano and other buildings.
The arcade-style building was opened in 1877 and is the oldest continuous shopping gallery in Italy. It was named for the first king of the Kingdom of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II.
The dome on top is made of iron and glass. Must weigh a ton. Many, many tons.
