Yes...a ditch. In the west where water is scarce, the ditch is a lifeline for those who do not own land right along the river. Members pay to have ownership in the ditch and are allowed to take so much water for irrigation based on the number of shares owned. Without it, farming, yard maintenance, etc. would be impossible unless you lived on the river.
A lifeline for many people.
The Animas Consolidated Ditch Company began operations in 1899 and operates near Durango, Colorado
