Description
There is more to Pisa than just a tower, though until someone shows you, the Tower is all you hear about. The tower is most definitely one of the most famous buildings in the world, and everyone there seems to think it's fun to have their picture taken looking like they're holding up the building.
But as you can see, there are many more buildings in the plaza that contains the Tower. Starting at the left, the low building is Camposanto, a cemetery for famous (and obviously deceased) Pisans. The round building is the Battistero di San Giovanni, a medieval baptistery with supposedly amazing acoustics and panels created by the sculptor Pisano. The next building is the Cattedrale di PIsa, a marble cathedral constructed starting in the year 1063. The Tower is obviously the Tower. And the last building is a museum, something relatively new, as it opened in 1891.
All this set in the Piazza del Dumo, Pisa Italy. This view is from the Porta Nuova entrance.
